Northern VA Transportation Authority Unanimously Approves a Six-Year Plan

CIRCUIT COURT UPHOLDS NEW REVENUES FOR THE NORTHERN VIRGINIA TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY

ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA - Today, Judge Benjamin N.A. Kendrick ruled in favor of the  Northern Virginia Transportation Authority (NVTA) and the Commonwealth of Virginia on all counts in the Bond Validation suit  filed on July 13, 2007.  In doing so, he denied the motions and the counterclaims of the intervening defendants which include Delegate Bob Marshall (R-13) and others.  For more information, please click here.



Speaker Howell and Majority Leader Stosch Detail Legislative Changes to Abusive Driver Fees

At a news briefing today, Virginia House of Delegates Speaker William J. Howell (R-Stafford) and Senate Majority Leader Walter A. Stosch (R-Henrico) affirmed the commitment of their respective caucuses to make changes that would apply Virginia’s recently enacted abusive driver fees to>out-of-state drivers.  In addition, the legislative leaders announced modifications to the safety and road maintenance revenue measure that would expressly limit the fees to the most serious offenses and provide greater discretion for judges in applying the fees under certain circumstances.  For more information, please click here.

State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) proposed and Vetoed by the President would make some in the middle class eligible for free health insurance.  Click here for further information.



Children of Deployed Military Can Receive Activity Vouchers
 
Children whose parents are deployed can participate in camps, county recreational activities and sports leagues at no charge through a voucher program provided by Fairfax County Department of Community and Recreation Services.  The vouchers are valued up to $250 for each child.
