2012 WFRWC Chairwomen

WFRWC Chairwomen

In addition to club officers, we have many Chairwomen who manage the various activities and programs the club sponsors.  Each of the Chairwomen are volunteers and serve for a year.  Current terms expire at the end of 2010, and all active members and associate members are encourage to volunteer.

If you have any question about a particular Chairwomen's activites, please contact them directly or anyone officer on the Board.

Americanism:  The Americanism Chair has the responsibility of inspiring respect for the American Flag and our country.  The Chair leads the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance at all regular meetings or asks someone to assume that responsibility if they are unable to do perform this duty at a meeting.  The Chair is responsible for the proper display of the flag at all functions of the club.

Awards:  The Awards Chair is responsible for the preparation and completion of paperwork required for any NFRW or VFRW club award submission.

Barbara Bush Program:  The Barbara Bush program is a program created by the WFRWC.  The program is very similar to the MELP which is the NFRW’s oldest literacy program.  WFRWC donates 2 books with a book plate to a local school on behalf of the club to help further educate and involve children in reading.

Bylaws:  The Bylaws Chair is responsible for ensuring that the club adheres to the club bylaws and intercedes when necessary to make sure the club is following procedure and guidelines.  The Bylaws chair is also responsible for reviewing the organization’s bylaws every 2 years and proposing changes when needed.  Proposed changes for a club should be sent to the state federation Bylaws chair for her review and approval. Once approved the club may vote on them.  Bylaws should always state the procedure for their amendment.

Bylaws are the most important rules that an organization can compose for itself.  They are rules of such importance that they cannot be changed without previous notice to the members and a 2/3 vote.  And they cannot be suspended – not matter how large the cote in favor of doing so or how inconvenient the rule in question may be – unless the particular rule specifically provides for its own suspension.

Caring for America/Community Service:  The Caring for America Committee institutes community service projects for the club.

Honor Flights - TheHonor Flight Network is a non-profit organization created solely to honor America's veterans for all their sacrifices. We transport our heroes to Washington, D.C. to visit and reflect at their memorials. Top priority is given to the senior veterans – World War II survivors, along with those other veterans who may be terminally ill.

Of all of the wars in recent memory, it was World War II that truly threatened our very existence as a nation—and as a culturally diverse, free society. Now, with over one thousand World War II veterans dying each day, our time to express our thanks to these brave men and women is running out.

Historian:  The Historian is responsible for keeping an account of the official activities that the club has done or is involved in over the course of the year (i.e., newspaper articles, events we volunteer at, pictures, etc…).

Mamie Eisenhower Literacy Program:  The WFRWC participates in MELP which is the NFRW’s oldest literacy program, celebrating 45 years of book donations from an approved list to schools and libraries. Bookplates are mailed to clubs upon receipt of the list of books to be donated. This enables the committee to track the numbers and names of books being donated by Republican women across the country.

National Legislation:  The Legislative Committee is designed to keep members abreast of legislative news and events on the local, state and national level and follow the progress of a legislative or Congressional session.

Parliamentarian:  The Parliamentarian is primarily responsible for ensuring to provide guidance and adherence to parliamentary procedure.  The Parliamentarian is the club expert in parliamentary procedures, rules, or debate and is well versed in the rules and usages of parliamentarian procedures, club bylaws and Robert’s Rules and intercedes when necessary to make sure the club is following procedure and guidelines.

Political Activism / State & Local Campaign Activities:  The role of the Campaign Committee is vital to the club, the state duration and the National Federation.  It is the crucial connection for Republican candidates.  The Campaign Chair(s) are to provide information about Republican candidates at all levels for our club and our community and keep us informed as the political platform changes.

Prayer/Chaplin:  This person has the responsibility of leading our meetings with a short prayer (taking into account all denominations and faiths) which is immediately followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.  In addition, this person asks someone to assume that responsibility if they are unable to do perform this duty at a meeting.

Public Relations:  The Public Relations chair is the public information officer for the organization.  This person/committee builds true rapport and friendship with the news media and community.  This person/committee voices not only the thoughts and opinions of the organization but also of the Republican Party.  The Committee has the key responsibility of keeping the public and our members informed of the club’s participating in Republican activities.

Scholarship Committee:  The Scholarship Committee is responsible for screening all applicants who apply for the club scholarship, Barbara Bush Scholarship,  which was named after our First Lady, Barbara Bush.  The scholarship was established by the WFRWC to recognize vibrant youth who are active and have made outstanding contributions to the Republican Party.  The scholarship is presented once a year to the winning applicant at a club meeting.

The applicant must meet the following criteria:

• Must be a 2012 graduating senior high school (preferably in Fairfax County)
°  This does include private and home schooled students
• Must have a 3.0 or above cumulative grade point average

Sergeant at Arms:  The Sergeant at Arms is appointed by the board and is responsible for keeping order during club meetings and events.

Ways-N-Means:  The Ways-N-Means Committee is responsible for assisting the Fundraising Committee and for selling 50/50 tickets during club meetings and events to help raise additional funds for the club.
